We’ve all heard the phrase; “You’ve got to play the hand you are dealt.” Yet how often have we looked at our hand and just wanted to fold. Sometimes life deals us a rough hand, and at others if we are honest with ourselves are dealt with us as the dealer. As if we turn the cards face up and pick out the worst possible hand to play with and try to make success out of it.
I have to say that as of recent I’ve done just that. Dealt myself a really bad hand, playing the game with miserable results. Things got all out of sorts with each card I played. I’ve been out-of-town for the past week and been re-introduced to a better dealer. He is the player that made the game. The wonderful thing about Jesus is that He makes it to where I don’t have to play the negative cards that have been dealt to me, nor the negative cards I’ve dealt myself. He is able to quite simply deal me a new hand. And I’m grateful.
I don’t have to look at all the hands I’ve dealt that were losers in the past. Rather He beckons me to see things as He sees them, and play the new hand that He is dealing me. As it says in Lamentations 3:22-24 (MSG) “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.”
When we figure out there is nothing we can do in and of ourselves, it gives God a great opening to do the miraculous on our behalf. Nothing is ever final. God gets the last word. God is Love, and His love conquers all. There are likely many changes that must be made, yet His Grace is sufficient to give us the power we need to face any challenge with our head held high as prisoners of hope to see what only He can do.
So if you wake up and find that you are playing with a bad hand. Simply ask God to deal you a new one from His deck. With His deck, we never lose.
