How’s that working for you?

Over many months now I have been reading various books on a wide spectrum from psychological, scientific, and spiritual subjects. In addition with us living in such a modern age, many videos have been gleaned from via DVD and YouTube. In all I have found that a level of faith must be taken into being, to believe just about anything.

Whether from a scientific perspective on quantum theory, to buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, or more modern versions of Spirituality that have sprung up over the years. Though many of my studies have plugged holes in my beliefs, many have left me with questions. Questions of faith.

What it has come down to me is in the simple words of Dr Phil: “How’s that working for you?” Often our greatest witness to our faith is how is it working in our own lives. Nothing seems to win out over personal experience of something that works. In many ways this is causing a return to some beliefs that I have held for years, and new ones that have expanded.

It is true that in many past generations, many gods have existed, many religions, and many spiritual journeys. Of which quite a few of them seem similar. Perhaps they are just superstition as some have supposed. Perhaps they were types and shadows of what was to come. I am not sure as I am not one who claims to have great theological knowledge.

One thing I am realizing is the simple truth of: “How’s that working for you?” During the times in life that I have opened up more to the teachings of Jesus in the red-letter part of the Bible, and to the Spirit that he promised, my life seems to work much better. So how is your faith working for you?

One thing Jesus said in John 3:16-17 was “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it but to save it.”

I don’t know what all the future holds, I can’t see past today for tomorrow is not here yet. I can’t do anything about the past for I have no time travel machine to take me back there. Yet, there is something that works for me today. I will stick with that. What will you stick with?

  1. I love the tension you’ve just set up by stating there’s something that works for you today and immediately segueing to questions of sticking with something. At its best, faith is like that, it seems. Evolving. Worth questioning. It’s not about being right, it’s about being in integrity, and integrity doesn’t have to mean me saying, well, I’ve always believed such-and-such, and so I will stand by that until the day I die.

Thanks for modeling faith with compassionate flexibility. That works for me.

    • Thank you for your comment… I always love to hear from readers… and for expanding my vocabulary by a word. I like that word “segueing” and hadn’t heard it used. I hope that all of our faith continues to grow.
